About the Artist : Lynda Cookson “I am inspired by colour, movement and texture – and believe that a good dose of humour is very important in certain aspects of my work – as in ‘The Piggy Collection’. I mainly use acrylics and oils on canvas, sometimes using my own handmade paper and various fabrics for texture beneath the paint. Most of my work is done with palette knives but I also use sponges, pieces of cardboard and even paper table napkins and scrunched plastic, with brushes laying claim to only a small part of the process.”

Lived in various parts of South Africa until 2001, including the Drakensberg Mountains, Durban and Pietermartizburg in Kwa-Zulu Natal, Pretoria, Greyton and Cape Town. Travelled extensively within Southern Africa including Swaziland, Lesotho, Namibia, Mozambique, and Zimbabwe. Have visited Australia, New Zealand and various countries in Europe. Emigrated to Ireland in 2001 ‘Janus’ is the group name chosen by the artists who represented Ireland at the 2005 Florence Biennale, for their collective exhibitions in Ireland. The name is taken from the Mythological Greek god of ‘new beginnings’. The ten members who represented Ireland are : Bob Anderson; Bridget Flannery; Greg Long; Lynda Cookson; Patrick Walshe; Paul Flynn; Stephen Bennett; Syra Larkin; Teresa Moran; Tony Gunning. Eight of the above members will be constant exhibitors with ‘Janus’.
